Violin Maintenance & String Instrument Care

Simple habits help keep a rental violin, viola, cello or double bass in good playing condition.

After every practice

Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe rosin dust from the instrument and strings. Avoid solvents, household polish and abrasive cleaners. Keep the cloth away from the bow hair.

Bow care

Loosen the bow hair after playing, and avoid touching the hair with your fingers. Do not overtighten it. Ask your teacher how much rosin to use.

Safe storage in Singapore

Store the instrument in its closed case or suitable protective cover, away from direct sunlight, air-conditioning outlets and damp areas. Never leave it in a parked vehicle. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and humidity.

If something feels wrong

Stop playing if the bridge shifts, the strings feel unusually tight or you notice a crack. Do not attempt structural repairs or change the setup without contacting us. Send a clear description and arrange an inspection.

Maintenance and string questions

Contact our rental team for advice on an instrument’s condition, tuning concerns or a worn string. Repair, replacement and consumable charges depend on the cause and the rental terms; we discuss any charge before proceeding.
